What is the CCNSG Safety Passport?

The CCNSG National Safety Passport Scheme is the most widely recognised and accepted scheme to gain access to engineering and construction sites throughout the country. The purpose of the course is to ensure all site personnel, including operatives, managers and supervisors, have a basic level of health & safety training which is standardised across the industry. The training, in conjunction with an appropriate site induction, enables contractors to work safely and minimise the risk to both themselves and others on site.

The Client Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) scheme itself is endorsed by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB). The ECITB works in conjunction with both employers and the Government to cultivate and qualify the workforce within the engineering construction industry. Their training schemes provide businesses with an excellent method to train engineers and expand, while supporting the need for safe working environments and standardised health and safety guidelines.

The course covers a variety of topics to ensure learners have a thorough understanding of site safety including: safe behaviours, Health and Safety laws and acts, hazards and risks, fire safety, manual handling, PUWER, COSHH and PPE, LOLER, noise, HAVS, confined spaces, working at height, site transport, signage, evacuations, emergency response.

A multiple-choice question paper is taken by all candidates during the training course and a pass mark of 80% must be achieved in order to receive the Safety Passport.

Course Duration

The course runs over 2 consecutive days. Once passed, the passport is valid for 3 years before a renewal course must be taken.

The renewal course lasts for one day and provides a refresher of the main health & safety topics. Candidates are given a 3 month grace period either side of the original passport expiration date to complete the course: up to 3 months before the passport expires or within the 3 months following that date. If not taken within this period, candidates must take the full two day CCNSG National course again. To find your nearest ECITB approved testing centre on CourseBox, follow this Link.

The CCNSG Leading a Team Safely course is suitable for personnel holding supervisory or management responsibilities within small teams, designed to build upon the knowledge already gained from the original National Safety Passport. It is the perfect next step for those wanting to advance their career and take on more responsibility on site. In addition to the focus on health & safety, the training also concentrates on communication within the workplace and managing others in a potentially dangerous environment. This is a one day course and available dates can be found Here.
